Sunday Brunchin’: Maggiono’s Durham Edition

If you know me, you would know that I love a good brunch.   Well today I had the pleasure of trying brunch at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Durham, NC.  This restaurant is located in the Streets at Southpoint Mall.  It turns out today was one of the first days that they offered brunch, so you know that made me even more excited.

On a regular day, I love the vibe and atmosphere of this restaurant, however today was phenomenal.   I made a quick reservation for us on Open Table, as you know Sundays can be tough to get a table at certain restaurants.  I walked into the restaurant and they had our table ready, we were greeted by a very cheerful staff.

The brunch menu looks nice.  They offer pancakes, benedicts, regular breakfast items, and they also offer the regular menu.  However, the highlight of brunch for me is definitely the brunch drink menu.  For $7 you can get a mimosa or peach Bellini.  This made my day, all of the food is average priced, with the meals being around $20 or so.

As I scanned the menu, I saw quite a few things that I liked.   However, I set my eyes on the crab cake benedict and of course started with a mimosa.

The waitress then came out and gave us some cinnamon breakfast cakes with a lemon frosting on them, it sounds interesting, but it was light airy, and delicious.  A great start to breakfast.

When my plate arrived,  I got 2 lump crab cakes, each topped with a poached egg (cooked beautifully) and hollandaise sauce over an English muffin.  I cut into the beautiful fluffy egg and crab cake and didn’t even touch the English muffin. (Not because anything was wrong with it, just didn’t feel like eating anymore bread at the time)  It was a magical first bite for me.   ( I really enjoy crab and eggs though. )  Of course I finished my mimosa, I love champagne for breakfast too.  Next the waitress brought me a bellini and it was frozen, yummy goodness.  It was sweet but just right.

The Manager came by to check on us and get our reviews on the meal.  I told her that everything was delicious.  My meal was cooked perfectly and my drinks were great.

I definitely recommend going to Maggiano’s in Durham for Sunday Brunch.  I would even suggest that you call ahead for reservations or make them on Open Table.  There were quite a few large parties in the restaurant, but it didn’t take away from my experience at all.   They get my seal of approval.

I hope that you go and try them one Sunday.
